eBay Fee Calculator (2026)
Most calculators stop at “13.6% + $0.40”. This one includes the part that surprises sellers on their first statement: eBay charges the final value fee on the total including the sales tax the buyer paid — plus promoted listings, insertion fees and your real costs.
Per-sale breakdown
“Fees were charged on” shows the FVF base. When it's higher than your price + shipping, the difference is the buyer's sales tax — eBay's quiet extra.
eBay's fees, piece by piece
Final value fee (FVF). A percentage of the total amount of the sale: item price + shipping + sales tax. Most categories are 13.6% for sellers without a store; media (books, movies, music) is 15.3%; trading cards 13%; guitars and basses just 6.35%. Two categories are tiered: handbags pay 15% on the first $100 and 9% above; watches pay 15% on the first $1,000 and 6.5% above — run a $1,200 watch above and watch the tiers work. Store subscriptions lower FVF by category-specific amounts; if you have one, type your effective rate into the override field.
Per-order fee. $0.30 when the total is $10 or less, $0.40 above. Small, but on a $7 item it's another 4–6%.
The tax trap. In most US states eBay collects sales tax from the buyer and remits it — you never see that money. But the FVF is still calculated on the tax-inclusive total. On a $100 sale with 8% tax, you pay fees on $108. Set the tax field to your typical buyer's rate to see your real take.
Promoted Listings. Charged on the same tax-inclusive total when a promoted click leads to a sale within 30 days. A “2%” ad rate that looks cheap in the dashboard is 2% of more than you received.
Insertion fees. Your first 250 listings a month are free; after that $0.35 each. We spread the excess across your monthly orders so relist-heavy sellers see the real per-sale cost.
FAQ
Is an eBay Store worth it? A store mainly buys lower FVF in specific categories and more free listings. Run your category at your store's rate in the override field, multiply the monthly saving by your order count, and compare with the subscription — that arithmetic, not the marketing page, decides it.
Why is my payout lower than price minus 13.6%? Usually three things: the per-order fee, FVF charged on sales tax, and a promoted listing fee from a click up to 30 days before the sale.
